タイプB-10は革製フライトジャケットの代替えとして1943年7月に米陸軍航空隊が採用した中温域（+10℃から-10℃）用の布製フライトジャケットである。第二次大戦中、急激な革不足に悩まされた米軍は縫製面と生産性を見直し、大量生産可能なコットンツイルを使用したフライトジャケットを開発したのである。ライニングにはアルパカモヘアウールパイルを使用しておりシープスキンに比べてかさばらず、軽量で保温性が高いという利点があった。外観は米陸軍と米海軍の共通使用目的でAN6552やAN-J-3Aといった“AN”シリーズを開発したが、陸軍航空隊では本格的に採用しなかったため、この型を新型布製ジャケットのB-10に採用した。
The Type B-10 is a fabric flight jacket adopted by the U.S. Army Air Forces in July 1943 as a replacement for leather flight jackets. It was designed for use in moderate temperatures ranging from +10｡C to -10｡C. During World War II, the U.S. military faced a severe leather shortage and reevaluated the sewing aspect and productivity, leading to the development of a flight jacket using mass-producible cotton twill fabric. The jacket featured an alpaca mohair wool pile lining, which was less bulky and lightweight compared to sheepskin while providing excellent insulation. In terms of appearance, the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy jointly developed the "AN" series, including AN6552 and AN-J-3A, for general-purpose use. However, the U.S. Army Air Forces did not fully adopt these models, and instead, they incorporated the design into the new cloth flight jacket, the B-10.
