The US Navy's G-1 jackets has by far the longest history in the period since flight jackets were adopted. The foundation was laid by the M-422, which has been supplied for over 80 years since its adoption in 1940, to the G-1 today, and which is unlike any other. While there have been minor differences in the transition from the M-422 to the G-1, such as changes in the lining color, chinstrap design, stencils on the back of collar, and material, the overall appearance has remained largely unchanged, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship since its initial adoption. Although the label states "INTERMEDIATE," unlike the U.S. Army Air Corps' temperature classification of "INTERMEDIATE" ranging from -10｡C to +10｡C, it is classified as intermediate between summer and winter use. Due to the limited production of the M-422, with only three deliveries in 1940, surviving specimens are extremely rare, and encountering one is quite difficult, making it a miraculous sight to behold. This particular M-422 is based on the model manufactured by Monarch, which boasts the most elegant appearance among the three types of deliveries, characterized by its sharp collar and pocket flaps with exquisite curves.
