タイプB-9は1943年から1944年にかけて製造された冬季用のフライトジャケットである。タイプB-9の前身モデルはムートン製のタイプB-7だったが、第二次大戦が勃発すると兵士が増員され、生産性の高いジャケットの開発が急務となった。ムートンの確保が困難になったことや、コスト面や生産性、重量面が見直され、タイプB-9が開発されたのである。アウターシェルにはコットンツイルを使用し、キルティングされたライニングの保温材には軽量且つ保温性に優れたダウンが採用された。また裏地には滑りの良いレーヨン生地を用いることで運動性においても向上した。外観は基本的にB-7を踏襲しており、フロントはジッパーとボタンで開閉する仕様。背面にはラバーウエストバンドと袖先にはリブが装備され、外気から風の侵入を防ぐ仕様となっている。
The Type B-9 is a winter flight jacket manufactured between 1943 and 1944. Its predecessor, the Type B-7 made of sheepskin, was replaced by the B-9 due to increased troop numbers and the urgent need for a more producible jacket during WWII. With difficulties in securing sheepskin, considerations of cost, productivity, and weight led to the development of the B-9. The outer shell is made of cotton twill, with a quilted lining filled with lightweight and highly insulating down. The interior lining is made of rayon for better mobility. The jacket's design retains the basic appearance of the B-7, featuring a zipper and button closure at the front, a rubber waistband at the back, and ribbed cuffs to prevent wind intrusion.
