The WL-1 are flight trousers adopted by the U.S. Navy from the late 1940s to early 1950s, worn as a set with the AL-1 jacket as part of the flight suit system. They use the same supple cotton twill made from combed yarn as the jacket and feature a wool flannel lining for added warmth. The hip and coin pockets have flaps to prevent items from falling out, showing thoughtful design. The front uses a button fly, and the waist includes belt loops and buttons for suspenders. The AL-1 jacket and WL-1 trousers represent the Navy’s final winter cotton flight suit before transitioning to the next-generation nylon flight suits, commonly known as “WEP.”
