中綿の入ったキルティングタイプのCWU-9/Pは、CWU-7/Pのライナー用として60年代初頭から採用され始めたフライトジャケットの中では珍しいライナーである。ライナー目的でありながら、フロントはジッパーとスナップボタンの二重構造のため単体でも十分着用可能である。本来は胸のポケットのみであるが、機能性を考慮してパッチポケットを追加している。フライトジャケットに分類される中で最も軽量であり、適度な保温性を兼ね備えるこのジャケットはインナーとしてもアウターとしても活用する範囲は広い。このライナーは本来ナイロン製であるが、コットン素材を使用したオリジナル。
The CWU-9/P, a quilted type with padding, is a rare liner jacket, which was adopted in the early 1960s as a liner for the CWU-7/P. Although intended to be used as a liner, it can also be worn on its own due to the dual construction of the zipper and snap buttons on the front. Originally, there was only a chest pocket, but a patch pocket was added later for more functionality. This jacket is the lightest of those classified as flight jackets and has a wide range of uses as both inner and outerwear, as it also offers a moderate degree of warmth. This liner was originally made of nylon, but the Buzz Rickson’s version is made of cotton.
