横須賀美術館で開催される世界初のスカジャンの展覧会「PRIDE OF YOKOSUKAスカジャン展」にてメインビジュアルを飾る作品。もとにしたヴィンテージは戦後間もない1946年、横須賀基地に駐留していた米兵のカスタムオーダーで刺繍された。スカジャンの最初期に作られた貴重な作品で、テーラー東洋が所蔵するこの1着しか発見されていない。横須賀が海軍の街であることから天に昇る龍をモチーフにしている。ダークネイビーの表地はヴィンテージをもとに再現したウールギャバジン。他のスカジャンとは一線を画す非常に手間のかかった作りが特徴で、何重にも刺繍を重ね、龍の角や鬣、鱗などが緻密かつ立体的に表現されている。
ヴィンテージは片面の仕様だが、展覧会を記念したスペシャルエディションとして復刻するにあたり、スカジャン最大の特徴であるリバーシブル仕様に変更。このリバーシブル面は、複数のヴィンテージの刺繍を贅沢に組み合わせた今回限りの特別仕様で、生地はオールブラックのアセテート。横須賀は海軍の軍港であることから、日本地図や富士山と共にNAVY BASE（海軍基地）を象徴する駆逐艦や龍、そして鷲ではなくカモメが刺繍されている。当時、筆文字をもとにして「YOKOSUKA JAPAN」と記した表面に対し、リバーシブル面は上部に「YOKOSUKA」下部に「JAPAN」表記の特殊なデザイン
“KOSHO & CO.” SPECIAL EDITION
テーラー東洋のコレクションの中でも特に厳選した逸品をディテールにこだわり再現するのが、このスペシャルエディション。横振り刺繍で緻密に描かれた図案はもとより、アセテート生地の打ち込みを調整してヴィンテージと遜色なく仕上げ、ウールリブも旧式の横編み機を使用して1着ずつ編み上げている。リバーシブル仕様のファスナーについても50年以上前のファスニング機械を再稼働させ、当時と同じ手曲げのものを再現。テーラー東洋の前身である港商（こうしょう）商会のラベルを使い、ヴィンテージスカジャンの最盛期を彷彿とさせる仕上がりとなっている。
A Sukajan developed to be displayed as a key visual at the world's first Sukajan exhibition "PRIDE OF YOKOSUKA " held at the Yokosuka Museum of Art in the last Dec 2022. The original vintage jacket was made in 1946, shortly after the war, as a custom order for US soldier stationed at the Yokosuka base. It is a precious jacket made in the earliest period of Sukajan, and no other jackets of this type have been yet discovered than the one that Toyo has collected. It is said that since Yokosuka is a town of US Navy, the motif is a dragon rising to the sky. The dark navy color shell material is wool gabardine that is duplicated based on the vintage exclusively for this jacket.
The vintage has an embroidery artwork only one side, but as a special edition to commemorate the exhibition, it was modified to have another one on the reverse side as well, which is the biggest feature of this Sukajan. The reversible side has a special one-time combination using the embroidery artworks from multiple vintage jackets. The shell fabric is all black acetate. Yokosuka is a naval port, so along with a map of Japan and Mt. Fuji, a destroyer and a dragon symbolizing naval base, and seagulls instead of eagles are embroidered. “YOKOSUKA” embroidered with capital letter along with “JAPAN” on the top is a rare design.
“KOSHO & CO.” SPECIAL EDITION
The “Special Edition” collection is a superior version of Tailor Toyo Sukajan that is an absolute reproduction of vintage souvenir jackets originated in the early days of post WWII. The intricate artworks are depicted in details by the experienced craftsmen with the vintage embroidery machines. The 100% wool rib that is purposely knitted loose by the primitive knitting machine in the same manner the rib of vintage jackets was done. The zipper with two pullers meant for reversible jacket is duplicated by using the 50-year-old vintage fastener machines. The special jacket has a woven label of “Kosho & Co.” which is a predecessor company of Toyo Enterprise, all the details of the day built in.
