第二次世界大戦の戦時下において物資不足を解消するために統制を受けて誕生したデニムブラウス。それまでのモデルで付いていたポケットフラップは省略され、フロントボタンも5個から4個に変更された。
フラッシャーに記されている“FOR THE DURATION”とは『戦争の期間中』という意味で、戦争が終わるまでの間、物資統制による仕様変更の旨が記されている。1940年代、米国政府は優秀な軍需品を手掛けた企業に対してその功績を称えてExcellent（優秀）を意味するEペナントを進呈した。本作は大戦当時、バズリクソンズがフライトジャケットのコントラクターを務め、Eペナントを受賞したという夢のフラッシャーが実現されており、ウィリアム・ギブソンの世界観に合わせ革ラベルの箔押しはブラック、フラッシャーはモノトーンを採用している。

ベジタブルタンニングのディアスキンラベル。鉄製の唐草柄ドーナツボタン。左身頃のプリーツステッチは縫い始まりと終わりが上で、右身頃は下が縫い始まりと終わりになる。手作り感のあるポケットステッチ。見返し裏にはセルビッジが見える。運動性を与えるプリーツ。手作り感のあるステッチとリベット位置。地の目を縦使いしたカフス。横使いと表情が変わってくる。ざらつきのある13.6oz.のオリジナルデニム。

バズリクソンズがブランドデビュー10周年の時に初めてプロデュースしたBLACK MA-1。世界的に著名な小説家ウィリアム・ギブソン氏の『パターン・レコグニション』には、登場する主人公が着用する『Buzz Rickson’s Black MA-1』の文字が刻まれている。その小説から飛び出し、実際のBuzz Rickson’s Black MA-1が誕生した。米空軍において1950年代に正式採用となったMA-1の規定色は本来ならセージ・グリーンであるが、色がブラックでミルスペックに基づいた軍規格のパーツ、資材を使用した本格志向のBLACK MA-1は世の中に存在していない。そのため市場において本物志向のユーザーからは好評で話題となった。資材をそれぞれブラックの色で指示してもそれぞれ素材によって染まり方が異なり、それらを一着のジャケットに構成すると微妙に色の差が表れ、フライトジャケットがどれだけの異素材で構成されているのかが明確になる。
This is the denim blouse that was produced under the strict material-control, or restriction that the US government imposed on the manufactures during WWII. The pocket flap was removed, and the number of front buttons was reduced to 4 from 5 pcs.
"FOR THE DURATION" written in the flasher means "during the period of war", and the change of specification due to the material control during the war is described. In the 1940s, the U.S. government awarded an "E" pennant, meaning "Excellent," to companies that produced outstanding munitions. This flasher is meant to praise Buzz Rickson’s that won the E-pennant as an excellent contractor of the flight jacket.

William Gibson is an author of superior talent and exceptional good taste. Vintage clothing represents an area of personal interest to him, especially wristwatches, US flying jackets and jeans. He is a great admirer of the goods produced by Buzz Rickson’s, which is what provided the inspiration for the fictionalized Buzz Rickson’s black MA-1 jacket worn by his central character, Cayce Pollard, in his novel. In the course of writing his novel, Mr.Gibson was aware that no MA-1 jackets were ever produced for the USAF in black but he decided to make the color of Cayce's jacket black, not Sage Green, which is the original color of the MA-1,because Cayce's jacket needed to be black in the creative vision of Mr.Gibson.
