高密度が故に強度のあるヘリンボーンツイルは戦闘服や対ガス防護服に適していた。そのヘリンボーンツイルに迷彩効果を高めるため採用した米陸軍はカモフラージュ柄を1942年に採用した。その生地にはグリーンサイドとタンカラーサイドと両面にプリントしているが、リバーシブルで着用する仕様にはなっていない。胸には容量の大きい縦長のマチ付きポケットが付き、肘は補強として二重になっている。また、前立て裏には毒ガスを侵入させない防護として密閉性を高めるためのガスフラップが設けてある。いずれもグリーンサイドに設置され、タンカラーサイドはプレーンな状態である。型はこの頃採用されたオリーブドラブ色のM-43とほぼ同じ外観だが、装備品の引っ掛かりや地上を這うことを想定してボタンは隠しボタン仕様となっている。

Herringbone twill, known for its density and strength, was suitable for combat uniforms and gas protective clothing. To enhance camouflage effects, the U.S. Army adopted a camouflage pattern printed on both sides of the fabric—green on one side and tan on the other—in 1942. However, the fabric was not designed to be reversible. The chest has a large vertical pleated pocket, and the elbows are reinforced with double layers. A gas flap, designed to improve sealing against poison gas infiltration, is located under the front placket, all placed on the green side. The tan side is plain. The design closely resembles the olive drab M-43 uniform adopted around the same time, but buttons are concealed to prevent snagging on equipment or while crawling on the ground.
