海軍と米海兵隊が使用したM-422Aの後継モデルとして登場したのがAN6552である。M-422A同様にゴートスキンを用いており、外観はM-422Aとほぼ同一だが米陸軍航空隊との共通使用目的からモデル名が変更された。そのモデル名はARMYとNAVY両軍の頭文字を採用しており、そのことから通常G-1系統のジャケットの襟裏には『USN』とマーキングされているが、このジャケットは両軍共通使用目的として『US』と記されている。主な変更点はM-422Aではニッケル仕上げのジッパーを使用していたが、真鍮製に黒い酸化処理を施したジッパーに変更されている。AN6552(AN-J-3A)は1944年から1947年まで採用され、朱色の美しいライニングを持つAMERICAN SPORTWEAR社のAN6552は1944年に納入された。一般的に求められる革素材は『個体差の無い均一なもの』だが、この革はその対極にある『一枚一枚個体差のある不均一なもの』をコンセプトに革作りから始動。厳選した厚手のゴートスキンを用いて植物タンニン液で鞣し、その後、薄めの色から下地を染色し、その上から染料で調色することで自然な色むらが表れている。さらには最終仕上げに職人の手によって固形のワックスを熱で溶かしながら丹念に擦り込まれている。こうした工程を経たゴートスキンは太陽光の下で下地の色が透けて見え、 深みのある色合いに仕上がっている。頭から尻にかけて縦に流れる美しいシボを持つゴートの本性に覚醒するのである。
The successor model to the M-422A, used by the Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps, is the AN6552. Like the M-422A, it uses goatskin, and its appearance is almost identical to the M-422A; however, the model name was changed due to the shared use purpose with the U.S. Army Air Forces. The model name incorporates the initials of both the Army and Navy branches. Because of this, unlike the usual G-1 series jackets which are marked with "USN" on the back of the collar, this jacket is marked "US" to indicate its joint usage by both branches. A major change is that while the M-422A used a nickel-finished zipper, the AN6552 uses a brass zipper treated with a black oxide finish. The AN6552 (AN-J-3A) was adopted from 1944 to 1947. The AN6552 supplied by AMERICAN SPORTWEAR in 1944 featured a beautiful bright red lining. Generally, the desired leather material is “uniform without individual differences,” but this leather starts from the opposite concept — “each piece has individual differences and is non-uniform.” Carefully selected thick goatskin is vegetable-tanned, then the base color is dyed lightly, followed by overlaying dye to create natural color variations. Finally, artisans carefully rub in solid wax heated to melt it for the finishing touches. Goatskin processed through these steps reveals the underlying color under sunlight, resulting in a deep, rich hue.
