This A-2 was manufactured in 1942 by Bronco Manufacturing Company based in New York. Bronco contracted to produce the A-2 twice, and this model is from the first delivery batch. The official Army Air Forces colors for the A-2 were seal brown—a dark brown likened to seal skin—and russet brown—a reddish brown likened to red bean color. This model is a typical “russet color,” fittingly called russet brown. The A-2 pattern was created in 1930, and production continued until 1944, with 18 manufacturers producing 39 lots in total. Bronco’s initial lot was the largest, with an impressive production of 59,000 jackets. The powerful and speedy stitching is evident throughout, including the curved top of the zipper installation on the left front and the angular pockets, which bear the mark of Bronco’s craftsmanship. The hanger loop is attached in a way that does not require rotating the jacket, demonstrating speed-conscious design. Also, the epaulets are the same size regardless of jacket size, so the cross-stitching may be slightly offset from the collar and shoulder edges depending on the size. Bronco’s achievement of the largest production lot for the A-2 attests to its excellent production capacity, earning deep respect for its results and accomplishments.
