米陸軍が第一次大戦頃から下士官の制服用としてレザーベルトを採用した。俗にギャリソンベルトとも呼ばれ、ギャリソンとは駐屯兵を意味しており、その語源から呼ばれるようになった。ベジタブルタンニングで鞣されたカウハイドは厚手で硬く、張りとコシがあり、引き締まった繊維質と肌目を持つのが特徴。本体裏の刻印は当時と同じタイトルと書体に拘り、厳選したカウハイドの表面を均一に滑らかにした意味を持っている。また縁には捻引き加工が施してあり、熱した道具でコバに押し当てながらラインを引くため、革の繊維が固く引き締まり、耐久性を高めている。ベルトループの動きをある程度抑えるループに刻印された『JQMD』とは、インディアナ州ジェファーソンビル・クォーターマスター・デポ（軍事補給拠点）を意味る頭文字で、1939年製造であることがわかる。バックルは当時のバックルから型を製作。そのバックルを留めるのはA-2に使用されるボールスタッド型のスナップボタンで、このパーツの存在が古き良き時代に製作されたことを物語り、このベルトのハイライトでもある。
The U.S. Army adopted leather belts for non-commissioned officers' uniforms around the time of World War I. Commonly known as the “Garrison Belt,” the term “Garrison” refers to garrison troops, and the belt was named after this etymology. Vegetable- tanned cowhide is thick and stiff, characterized by its firmness and resilience, as well as its tight grain and texture. The stamp on the back of the belt is meticulously crafted to match the title and font used at the time, signifying that the surface of the carefully selected cowhide has been uniformly smoothed. Additionally, the edges feature a twisted finish. This is achieved by pressing a heated tool against the edge to draw a line, which tightens the leather fibers and enhances durability. The “JQMD” stamped on the loop—which helps restrict the movement of the belt loops—stands for the Jeffersonville Quartermaster Depot in Indiana, indicating that the belt was manufactured in 1939. The buckle was cast from a mold of an original period buckle. It is fastened with a ball-stud snap button of the type used on the A-2 jacket; the presence of this part attests to the belt’s vintage origins and serves as one of its highlights.
