一般的にWEPと呼ばれるこのフライトジャケットの正式名称は、J-WFS(ジャケット・ウィンター・フライングスーツ）で、WEPと呼ばれる由縁は『Naval Weapons』（海軍武器局）のユニフォームからである。WEPは米海軍が1950年代中期から1970 年代中期頃まで採用した冬季用スーツのジャケットで、開発当初からトラウザースとセットで着用することを前提としているため、ジャケットのライニングにはトラウザーズと連結させるためのタブが付いている。WEPにはスペック上4タイプ存在し、その最終型はスペックナンバーMIL-S-18342Cで、俗にCタイプと呼ばれている。Cタイプは1966年に海軍武器局によって制定され、1967年から1973年の間生産された。初期型のWEPの色はやや薄めのリーフグリーンであったが、Cタイプは緑みの強いオリーブグリーンとなる。特徴は袖口のリブがV字型にカッティングされており、前のタイプとは大きくモデルチェンジしている。
Commonly known as the WEP, the official name of this flight jacket is J-WFS (Jacket Winter Flying Suit). The term “WEP” derives from the uniforms of the Naval Weapons Bureau. The WEP was a winter suit jacket adopted by the U.S. Navy from the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s. Since it was designed from the outset to be worn as a set with trousers, the jacket lining features tabs for attaching it to the trousers. There are four types of WEP according to specifications, and the final model is Specification Number MIL-S-18342C, commonly known as the C-Type. Type C was established by the Naval Weapons Bureau in 1966 and was produced between 1967 and 1973. While the color of early WEP models was a slightly lighter leaf green, Type C features a more vivid olive green. A distinctive feature is the V-shaped cut of the cuff ribbing, representing a significant design change from previous models.
